Ten police officers in Rio de Janeiro are facing charges over the alleged torture and killing of a slum dweller.
Investigators said the officers are suspected of killing Amarildo de Souza in the Rocinha favela.
Mr de Souza was a bricklayer and a father-of-six.
His remains have not been found and investigators believe they have been dumped.
Under Brazilian law, prosecutors now have 30 days to decide whether to file charges against the officers.
The case sparked outrage in Brazil, with protesters taking to the streets demanding that police be held accountable in the case.
Mr de Souza was last seen in police custody in the slum.
The officers claim they let him go shortly after taking him in for questioning about alleged gang activities.
